About Paradoxus

Paradoxus, a Latin term meaning “contrary to expectation”, is a Nashville-based Acid Jazz,  R&B, Funk, and Soul collective led by bassist Richard Michaels.  Founded in 2024, the band primarily performs the music of Acid Jazz heavy weights such as The Brand New Heavies,  Incognito, Count Basic, Blacknuss, Down To The Bone and others. 

After moving to Nashville in 2022, “I knew I didn’t want to play the Broadway scene”, Michaels  explains. “I tried joining classic rock bands,”  he said, “but the music didn’t excite me, I needed  and wanted to play the type of music I was passionate about.  Paradoxus gives me that outlet.”

The core principle of the collective is to play great music and at the same time, introduce  audiences to artists and music they may not have heard or been exposed to.
